Recently there has been a surge in the hype of oils being used for hair growth, so I did a little digging. What I have found is that Grapeseed oil is actually the best to promote hair growth, while Argan, Moroccan and Coconut oil follow close behind.

Moroccan oil which is made from the kernels of argan tree fruit that grow almost exclusively in Morocco and is a lesser pure form of Argan Oil. It can help improve the appearance of dry, damaged hair, rough skin, and delivers brilliant shine to any mane. Moroccan works best on dried hair. Not only does it make the hair look good and healthy, but it takes away frizz and the feeling of rough hair. It makes the hair very light and smooth.

Moroccan Oil Ingredients
Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Butylphenyl, MethylPropional, Argania Spinoza Kernal Oil (Argan Oil), Linseed (Linum Usitatissimum) Extract, Fragrance Supplement, D&C Yellow-11, D&C Red-17, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone

Argan Oil  is a golden colored oil produced from the kernels of argan tree fruit.
Traditionally the oil is produced by hand. First the soft pulp is stripped from the nuts which are then laid out in the sun to dry. Stones are used to crack open the dried nuts so the seeds can be removed. Next, they’re gently roasted to give the oil a rich, nutty flavor. A little water is added to the roasted seeds and they are ground into a thick paste which is squeezed by hand to extract the oil.
Argan oil consists of a blend of fatty acids (over 70% oleic and linoleic acids.) It is also rich in vitamin E, phenols, and carotenes.
It can be used for hair growth (best used on damp hair), cooking, on skin and there has been some research that indicates that argan oil  may be a treatment for psoriasis. Studies on the ingesting of Argan oil reveal the nutty-flavored oil may have heart-health benefits similar to that of olive oil. Although it is used on skin it can potentially cause zits so be careful if you’re prone to breakouts.
Argan oil has multiple beauty uses. It can be used on the face, body, hair and cuticles. It helps to treat split ends, treat acne, dry and irritated skin, and prevent scarring from unwanted blemishes. The fatty acids are amazing for hair because the protein aids hair growth and gets your hair all thick and full. You can use with anything, from your shampoo and conditioner to the leave in conditioner.  Argan Oil is also touted as an effective anti-aging product, helping to minimize fine lines and wrinkles.

Grapeseed Oil  Many women use olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, and even jojoba oil on their hair, however, few use or know about grapeseed oil. Grapeseed oil is a great choice for hair care because it contains a lot of vitamin E, which is necessary for hair growth, and health. The extensive proteins, minerals, and the linoleic acid it contains also offer lots of benefits for hair. Hot grapeseed treatment will help hair look shiny, but not feel greasy.

It protects against moisture loss.  Grapeseed oil contains a high amount of linoleic acid, a type of omega-6 fatty acid. Research has demonstrated that when applied to the skin, this fatty acid can help combat dryness. It is also odorless and light. It can be used As a sealant.  Depending on your hair, grapeseed oil may work just fine as a sealant after a good wash and conditioning session. Just apply the oil to damp hair to lock in the moisture. Grapeseed oil can also be used As a hot oil treatment. Use the oil alone or mixed with other oils as a hot oil treatment prior to your wash. This oil can also be used to enhance your current moisturizer.  Mix a little bit with your moisturizer to increase moisture retention.
Here are the health benefits of grape seed oil:
  • Rich in Antioxidants
  • Heart Health
  • Beneficial For Diabetics
  • Broken Capillaries And Blood Vessels
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Cancer Prevention
  • Post-Surgical Benefits
  • Heals Wounds
Coconut Oil is used for Faster Hair Growth. Use coconut oil as a natural way to help your hair grow longer, thicker, and faster. The vitamins and essential fatty acids naturally found in coconut oil nourish the scalp and help to remove sebum build-up from hair follicles.
Coconut oil is the richest natural source of medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs), special types of fatty acid with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that are very nourishing to the body. It is especially high in the C12 chain of MCFAs known as Lauric Acid. Lauric acid is naturally occurring in breastmilk as well and is supportive of hormone health and cellular health. This beneficial property of coconut oil is also one of the reasons it can help prevent protein loss in hair. Coconut oil’s structure allows it to penetrate hair in ways that other oils are not able to, which is why some people notice amazing results relatively quickly when using coconut oil for hair.
Honey seems to make coconut oil even more beneficial for hair and the simple sugars in honey can nourish hair and make it naturally smooth and frizz free.

Eat the Coconut Oil for Maximum Benefit. coconut oil may offer the most benefit to hair when consumed internally, as its high Medium Chain Fatty Acid content and antioxidants can help improve the rate of hair growth from the inside out.

It is recommend to take a tablespoon of raw coconut oil daily, however if you are like me I disliked the texture of the oil and opted to purchase organic coconut oil gelcaps.

Have you tried Moroccan, Grapeseed Oil, Coconut Oil or Argan Oil for your hair? What was your experience?
