EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH TRACI BAKER

Traci has such a free spirit and beautiful outlook on life. She shares with us her struggle and how she used it as a stepping stone to better the lives of her and her children. What really brought a smile to my face when was she shared how she implements her children into her business and gave them their own titles, that is so brilliant, I absolutely love it. Read on to learn how Traci's heart-wrenching event inspired her to start her own business..........

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am a single mom of four, ages 8, 5, 3, and 6 months. I love to read, draw and listen to music. I love to cook as well. I also love animals. I have a border collie, a pit bull, 8 rabbits and a horse.

What services/products do you offer?

I offer chain maille jewelry, bookmarks, keychains and fidget toys. The jewelry is to help women boost their self-esteem, confidence and overall happiness. The fidget toys are for all ages. My 5-year-old son is ADHD and he will sit for hours and zone out on one of the toys.

What was the driving force behind you starting your business?

My daughter's father walked out on us. He abandoned us at the hospital on Christmas Eve when she was born, stole my debit card, my vehicle and my older kids' presents. So January 1st, I started pouring everything I had into my business so that my children would never be hurt like that again. Because if I can build it into a success, then we won't want for anything and we'll just have the lessons learned.

Who is someone that inspires you?

I have 2 women that really inspire me with their business smarts and how they've overcome their struggles: Jen Kem and Jasmine Star

Do you think it is important to have a business coach or mentor?

I just started with my coach yesterday, but in one session I already have WAY more direction and clarity on what I'm doing. So I would say that having a coach, or at the very least a mentor, is very important for small businesses!

How do you stay inspired and refreshed?

When I feel myself starting to get burnt out, I take time off and go to nature. Even if it's just going out in my front yard barefoot, I try to get as connected as possible. I love going to our woods and either spending time at the lake or going down to the creek and wading. It is usually ice cold year round, so it's the perfect way to unplug and recharge on those hot summer days.

How do you juggle being a mom and running a business?

Not very well!!! I am slowly implementing a schedule for both work and home. I have started limiting my work time and I have started completing household chores on a rotating schedule as well. I also have the pleasure of having my two oldest children (ages 8 and 5) as co-workers. My daughter, the oldest, started as a Junior Designer and has recently begun learning some of the administrative tasks as well so that she can become an assistant as well. My son is our Master of Inventory and is in charge of keeping our materials and finished stock organized and accounted for.

What is your favorite book?

Impossible Dreams by Patricia Rice is my favorite single, however, my favorite trilogy is the Three Sisters Trilogy by Nora Roberts. Both of them are about business owners but are also romances.

What is your favorite quote?

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to."
"I don't much care where –"
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go.”
―
Lewis CarrollAlice in Wonderland

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

One thing that MOST people do not know about me is that I have been working towards owning my own business since I was a Sophmore in high school. I started a "magazine" that I wrote, designed, published and distributed. I started college business classes the Junior year of high school and continued to attend both college and high school until I graduated high school with an honors degree.

What can we look forward to seeing from you next?

I have some new items that I am working on, some new designs of my daughter's as well as my own, and hoping to get those launched before the end of the year.

Motorcycle Bluetooth Intercom Headset

This two-way headset was perfect for my husband. I hate calling him and he is not able to answer my call or even know that I had called until whenever he just happens to look at his phone. This was by the far the best idea for a motorcyclist to be able to talk handsfree and be safe at the same time.
It was easy to install, took about five minutes and while talking it is clear and not a lot of wind in the background like you would imagine.
I definitely recommend this product to anyone who rides a motorcycle and ladies you can even bedazzle your up a bit.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

In 2017, I co-created Pretty Face Heavy Weight (PFHW), a faith & beauty brand created to take Christian women from stagnation to restoration and from religion to relationship. I am also Founder and CEO of RLH Coaching & Consulting, a firm focusing on strategy development for visionary women leaders and professionals who want to serve BIG, with the strategies, structure, and support they need to unleash their movement. I work in corporate America as a social worker and am married to a prophet.

What services/products do you offer?

There are a total of 5 journals and planners designed as spiritual development tools to advance spiritual growth, focus on habitual devotion and study habits.

What was the driving force behind you starting your business?

PFHW core values include: 1) women are not only pretty but can produce vision, destiny, and purpose and 2) women can serve as prophetic warriors who carry heavy weight in the spirit not trophies for the front rows of church pews.

Do you have a Business Bestie?

Yes, my BFF Lindsay who lives in Delaware and I’m also apart of a mastermind of master minds.

For those women who want to start a business, can you explain why it is so important to have a coach or mentor?

A coach is your shortcut, your parachute, and your accelerator. Literally what it may take some people 10 years to accomplish you can attain in 1 year because you have someone who’s made the mistakes, learned the best practices, and knows the tools and structure you need to grow and scale. Most people with no coach remain stuck, stagnant and unable to get to the next level for far longer than they should.

How do you stay inspired and refreshed?

Travel! I love to travel and a change of scenery always gives the mind an escape and sparks creativity. My favorite places would be Ghana, West Africa or Turkey.

What is your favorite part about being a wife?

Being married to a priest, not just a preacher. My husband constantly covers our family and home in prayer and marriage has given me a peace I didn't know I was missing. It’s just something about being legal before God!

What is one beauty tip that you would like to share?

I love Lipsense glosses! They last for up to 14 hours and I can eat and not have to reapply all day.

What is one course that you do not regret investing in?

I invested in a journal creation course that gave me the opportunity to create my own journals. It’s a dream I’ve had for a long time and has paid for itself many times over.

How do you prepare for a speech?

I do my best thinking weirdly in the shower. This is usually where I decide what are the 3-5 points/ topics I want to address and I typically move prophetically for the rest.

Tell us about your fasting planner?

We created the fasting planner because there are so many women who want to implement a lifestyle of fasting but feel like their days are too busy. So, we created a planner that listed daily times that they planned to dedicate to worship, scripture focuses for the day, a place where they could include things they need to repent for as they come up throughout the day and also revelations they’ve received.
It’s designed to keep you accountable daily and also to use as a tool for people who may want to write a book or journal concerning a certain topic but need structure. We advise they pick a topic, let’s say healing and build their fast around that. By the end of the fast, they’ll have chapters for the book outlined.

What is your favorite quote?

I wouldn’t say it’s a quote but a mantra I live by is “if you don't love it, don't do it”. It keeps me from committing to things that are distractions and time suckers.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

I’m a dreamer so I love to sleep. Many of my dreams come to pass.

What can we look forward to seeing from you next?

I just released an E-course 7 Keys to Unleash Your Movement and my next book will probably be Proverbs & Pillow Talk: Heavenly Conversations with the Father. I’m also planning an Unleash Your Movement Conference in May 2019.

Exclusive: Interview with Montana King

Montana King: is a black male who once was caught up in living a street life until his first son was born then changed his life around as a motivational speaker/mentor/filmmaker & author.

You do a lot with the community, can you tell us what all you are involved in?

I speak at public schools with youth about bullying, leadership & career goals.

Sometimes it’s our flaws and our mistakes and setbacks that actually advance us the most in life and alter our perspective. What do you think were the most important mistakes you’ve learned from?

Hustling in the streets taught me a lot & left me in a place of being alone even though people were just around me for the money it took making a bad choice & I ended up paying for it by going to prison. I learned that choices like that didn't just affect me but also the ones who truly love me & depended on me.

What was the driving force behind you becoming an author?

Becoming an author came from my mother, an author named Akosi & recently Tamp Jones. My mother motivated me to tell my story which led to my first Book "Crossroads to Redemption" about my life being raised by a single mother, that also turned into a film & soundtrack. Akosi & Tamp motivated me because I know them both personally and to see how open their minds are and deep in thought made me open up more about things I held in for so long.

Who's provided the most inspiration for you along the way, as you've built your business?

My biggest inspiration is my wife & children because without being able to wake up to see them every morning I would be incomplete in my mission.

What advice can you share with other young men that want to start their own business?

To keep those that are positive around you & be willing to think outside the box even if it gets frustrating & difficult because that is when the best art from within is created.

What are your goals for your book?

To create more writers, to touch someone that needs a breakthrough & to show the world to not be afraid of growth no matter your past.

How do you define success?

Success to me is never giving up on what you have a passion for and going out every day to achieve it.

Since you are our first male to be interviewed, its only right that I ask a question for the ladies. What do men look for in a Wife?

I feel a man should look for his best friend in a wife, being equally yoked & having that one person who sees the greatness in you is powerful no matter the ups & downs.

What is the best piece of business advice that you’ve ever received?

The best advice that was given to me was given by my grandmother, she's not living anymore her name was Genet.  She told me "If you create your own lane you can decide what is welcomed on your road".  I never understood that as a kid but today I do!

Are you an early bird or night owl?

I'm actually both lol my wife say's I barely sleep because I feel like I'm going to miss out on something lol

What is your personal credo?

My credo is, every homeless person should have a roof over their head.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Africa, because I want to actually see what I can do to help others in a time of recovery in another country.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently dropping my book, film & soundtrack to my biography "Crossroads to Redemption" 8/18/18. I just started working on my second film "Pain & Passion" that has a date to release 12/18/18 this film is about a black woman who is a singer fighting breast cancer. I'm also working on my new workout apparel called: I.M Apparel (IMotivate Apparel). I will continue to reach out to our youth & adults incarcerated and create doors for them to reunite with their children.

Map out your dream life
What does your dream life really look like? Do you dream of starting each morning with your favorite yoga class? Do you want to take one month off every year to travel? Are you an accountant, but dream of writing? How do you want to spend your life-minutes? Or as Danielle LaPorte would say, “How do you want to feel?” I know for me it was really hard to even imagine being an author. No one in my family was artistic. No one in my immediate family was an entrepreneur, so even allowing myself to think it was possible was hard for me. Sit down and journal. Be honest with yourself. How do you want to live your one sweet life? Everyone has very different processes for visualizing their dreams or setting goals. Maybe you like to get a massive 12-month dry erase calendar to help you set goals. Maybe you want to do a vision board, or maybe you just want to spend an afternoon with your journal and a nice glass of wine. Whatever process you choose, make sure it feels good to you. You are considering this new path so that you can have more freedom and fun in your life. Make sure you aren’t just planning for book deals, more Instagram followers or bigger profits. Plan for joy.

2. Cultivate a successful mindset

Most people think success happens because of hard work, grit, luck, strategies, connections or a viral social media campaign. While those things can certainly help, success is 90% possible because of your mindset.

Think of what feels impossible to you right now. Does quitting your job feel impossible? Does making 6-figures doing something you love feel impossible? What do you really desire, but the worry isn’t “realistic”? Envision your desire. Hold a space for it.

For me, I'd always dreamed of being financially free. The truth was for many years I was in a scarcity mindset. I was scared to spend money. I stayed in jobs I didn’t love, because I was scared to leave the consistent income. I thought my actions were responsible. I thought they  would lead me closer to my goal, but it was quite the opposite. Fear kept me stuck. However, over the years, after trial and error, and meeting some truly life-changing mentors, I began to manifest a healthy money mindset. I started small. I started with picking up extra change and saving it.  I started keeping a gratitude list so that I was aware of the abundance that surrounded me. When I would make a big investment in myself, or pay a bill, I would repeat a mantra like, “There is more where that comes from.” There is a lot of power in the words we say to ourselves. As you venture off on your next life adventure keep that in mind. What words and mindset can you embrace to make your impossible possible?

3. Start freelancing on nights and weekends

Do you want to be a health coach, fashion designer, real estate investor or software developer?  Start a side hustle. Make a list of your friends or family you think might need or benefit from your services. Send them an email letting them know about your plans and business. Do your research. Find two or three ways you can be of service. Get them on the phone and propose how you can help. (REMEMBER! It isn’t just about making money. It is about helping people.)  As you work with your first clients you will learn about their pains and struggles. You will learn what service and offering they really need and you will quickly build your list of clients in the process.

4. Join a Sisterhood
Women often think to be successful they have to be masculine. Women think they have to push hard, get results and do it alone. This is a recipe for burn out. The truth is we can be successful and feminine. We can be creative, intuitive and connected to our emotions and still make the income and impact we desire. Yet, we still have a tendency to start isolating and depriving ourselves when we are going through a transition in our life. In reality, when we are going through a significant change we actually need more self-care and sisterhood. In those moments of excitement, uncertainty, long work hours and growth, we need more long walks, bubble baths, talks with girlfriends, massages, and yoga. So as you are thinking of your next move, make sure you step up your self-care routine. Surround yourself with sisters and lady bosses that can support and celebrate you.
